The New Year is always a time to focus on a fresh start, creating resolutions, and setting new goals. For the vast majority of people, these goals are focused on health and wellness. Unfortunately, as time goes on, these goals are often abandoned. If you are committed to keeping your New Year’s Resolutions this year, follow these simple steps and keep them achievable!

Set A Specific Resolution

Starting with something general like “I want to be healthy in 2019” is a great start, but in order to be successful, you should bring a little more focus to your resolution. Honing in on a particular goal will help you maintain focus. For example, “I will lose 25 pounds over the next six months by working out at least three times a week and making healthy diet choices” is not only specific, but also realistic. Giving yourself a tangible number and time frame will make your goal seem more attainable.

Make Realistic Action Steps

Not only is it important to be specific in your resolution, it’s also important to be realistic with yourself. The point of New Years Resolutions is to make a positive change in your life, but that change takes time. If your resolution is to start working out every single day when you haven’t lifted a weight in two years, you will quickly become overwhelmed. Set yourself up for success by making realistic steps to achieve your goal. Instead of telling yourself you will work out everyday, commit to working out three times per week. Once that becomes routine, add on another day and eventually your (seemingly) far-fetched goal will become a reality!

Track Your Progress

Now that you’ve set a specific goal and listed out your action plan to accomplish it, all you have left to do is put in the work and track your progress. If you have committed to working out three times per week, but it just doesn’t happen for one reason or another, don’t count yourself out as a failure. To stay on track, add another day on to the next week. A weekly workout journal is a great way to hold yourself accountable while tracking your progress. And nothing feels better than seeing your accomplishments!
